Admiraban a AlQaeda en la Península Arábiga y habían buscado cómo construir bombas como las del World Trade Center de 1993 o la del Maratón de Boston.
According to the criminal complaint filed, both women had regular communications with al-Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula. Investigators report that in 2009, Siddiqui wrote a poem for al-Qaeda, declaring “no excuse to sit back and wait – for the skies rain martyrdom.” Velentzas apparently had openly declared Osama bin Laden as one of her heroes.
In 2014, the pair started researching the truck bomb used by Timothy McVeigh in the 1995 Oklahoma Federal Building bombing. Authorities stated that they had “researched and acquired some of the components of a car bomb, like the one used in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing; a fertilizer bomb, like the one used in the 1995 bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City; and a pressure cooker bomb, like the one used in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.”
The women were arrested with propane tanks, fertilizer, potassium gluconate, and instructions for putting it all together in their verifiable possession.
While no target was specifically indicated, the two had been recorded by undercover agents discussing where to place their planned explosive devices.
En la grabación se les escucha decir que no querían atacar objetivos civiles, mejor sitios militares o policiales.
